Best Hotels in Udaipur Near Pichola Lake
Udaipur, and Rajasthan in general, have hotels that used to be traditional homes, or havelis: big houses for influential or large families. Those havelis have been converted into heritage hotels, their multicolored glass panes, heavy fort-like wooden doors, arched windows, and thick pillars a testament to time. So many haveli hotels have pools, bars, and airport drop-off and pickup. These guesthouses are fully equipped for the high-end domestic and foreign travelers who come in millions to see the best places to visit in Udaipur. (Even in Pushkar in Rajasthan, I saw beautiful artistic big houses.)
Three-star, four-star, and five-star hotels in Udaipur are abundant. But Udaipur also has more than enough accommodations for the economic or budget traveler. There are lake-view hotels in Udaipur, and there are hotels near Udaipur Railway Station. My list has both budget hotels in Udaipur city and the best heritage hotels in Udaipur.
Pichola Lake is the center of Udaipur. The colorful markets, historical palaces and forts, and busiest neighborhoods are all located around Pichola Lake. During my one week in Udaipur, I stayed at the Hotel Panorama Haveli right at the lake. Every morning, as soon as I opened my eyes, the lake was right there. But Panorama Haveli’s rating has gone down. Most reviews complain about cleanliness. Maybe the dust I had seen wasn’t all collected during the lockdown. So I say don’t stay where I stayed. Hah!
Here Are My Top Recommended Hotels in Udaipur Near Lake Pichola: Grouped by Budget.
Luxurious
1. Jagat Niwas Palace: One of the premium heritage hotels of Udaipur that is actually a 17th-century haveli (a large residence). It is a luxury comfortable stay right at the lake Pichola. You can’t reach the place by car. Suites come with bathtubs and a large window seating overlooking the lake, and the aesthetics are pretty Rajasthani. This is a luxurious property, and the reviews justify the prices.

2. Taj Lake Palace Udaipur: I have been fortunate to stay in one of the Taj properties (in Calcutta) and can’t recommend them enough. The Taj group ensures a comfortable stay no matter what. Taj Lake Palace is on an island on Lake Pichola. The heritage building was once the summer palace of the royal Mewar family. Of course it comes with exquisite interiors, the best furnishings and equipment, and unbeatable views. This is luxury at its best; the prices are steep.
Look at the stunning pictures here and reserve if you like. You can’t go wrong with Taj!
3. Raj Niwas: A royal stay whose every room has a private terrace overlooking Lake Pichola. It is run by a friendly host, and breakfast is included in this beautifully designed heritage property.

Mid-Budget
4. Madri Retreat – Heritage Boutique Hotel with Pool: Madri is a haveli turned into a hotel. The hotel is known for its spacious rooms and bathrooms equipped with bathtubs. A tea kettle and study desks are provided in the room. Madri is not on Lake Pichola, but I’m recommending it for its amazing reviews. The grand breakfast is included, and guests can enjoy a pool and spa.

5. Jaiwana Haveli: A mid-range hotel with great reviews right on Pichola Lake. They have an in-house restaurant and laundry service, but no lift, as some guests with special needs have complained. The views are stunning, and an on-call tuk-tuk driver and guide are available to show guests around Udaipur.
6. Hari Niwas Guest House: A highly-rated mid-budget homestay in Udaipur run by a sweet, friendly, and helpful family who are appreciated in every review. Beautiful rooms, a home-like feeling, and an excellent location are the features of Hari Niwas.
Make your reservation at Hari Niwas.
7. Little Garden Guest House: Little Garden is only 300 meters away from Lake Pichola. The guesthouse looks stunning, with aesthetic and traditional interiors and modern furnishings. The reviews speak highly of this little garden hotel. Most mention the property being superbly clean, the staff courteous, wifi strong, breakfast delicious, and I can go on. It is on the higher side of the mid-range, but a big breakfast is included.
Little Garden has various room options. Look here and choose.
8. Oolala-Your lake house in the center of Udaipur: Another highly praised hotel right on Lake Pichola, run by a friendly couple. Reviews mention great balconies, delicious homemade food, and tips to discover the best places in Udaipur. The accommodation has a small library, and the large rooms look cosy. Oh, there is a shared kitchen as well. Rooms are mid-range, and the suites are more expensive.
9. Natural Lake View Hotel: Situated at Lake Pichola, this heritage building comes with spacious rooms equipped with bathtubs and large window seats offering a panoramic view of the lake. Great prices and great reviews.

MY FIRST BOOK
Journeys Beyond and Within...
IS HERE!
In my vivid narrative style (that readers love, ahem), I have told my most incredible adventures, including a nine-month solo trip to South America. In the candid book, the scoldings I got from home for not settling down and the fears and obstacles I faced, along with my career experiments, are laid bare. Witty and introspective, the memoir will make you laugh and inspire you to travel, rediscover home, and leap over the boundaries.
Sikkim Express: "Simple, free-flowing, but immensely evocative."
The Telegraph Online: "An introspective as well as an adventurous read."
